Please note that this training, funded through a cooperative agreement with the Children’s Bureau (ACF/DHHS) has been modified to comply with the Trump Administration Executive Orders.
This modified training is approved for 21.5 contact hours. For continuing education purposes, each module has a pretest and posttest. A score of 80% or higher for each post-test is required to pass the course. You will have the opportunity to retake the post-test as many times as needed to pass.
Through a federally funded cooperative agreement (90CO1144), we are evaluating the training. Your information will be used to learn more about participants’ experiences, the training impacts and effectiveness, and inform improvements to the training and implementation. Evaluation surveys are embedded in the course. These surveys are optional but highly encouraged. Thank you for sharing your experiences! If you have any questions about the evaluation, please contact Evaluators@adoptionsupport.org.
Finally, we encourage participants to complete the NTI Training within 6 months to maximize learning. We know this training is intensive and requires a significant time commitment.
We hope you find this training informative and engaging!

The National Adoption Competency Mental Health Training (NTI) is web-based curriculum enhancing the capacity of Child Welfare Supervisors to support their staff to effectively address the complex mental health needs of children who experience foster care, adoption, or kinship care. This training focuses on the knowledge, values and skills needed to assess children's complex needs and develop effective case plans, make appropriate referrals, adequately prepare children and parents for permanency, and provide supports to ensure family stability and well-being. Throughout this training, we will address issues of loss, grief, attachment, trauma and more. Sometimes these issues touch on experiences that professionals may have had in their own lives. If the content triggers you, please take time to practice self-care: take a break and seek out consultation to support you in this challenging work.
